Eugene Albert “Teener” Philipp, 91, of Woodstock, died July 10, 2018, at the Hospice Care Center in Woodstock.
He was born Sept. 20, 1926, to Albin and Addie Philipp. On Aug. 9, 1963, he married Hazel Mae Lappin at Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock.
Mr. Philipp was a veteran, serving in the Army during World War II. He had worked for McHenry County Title Co. for 44 years before retiring in 1988. He was elected as the city clerk of Woodstock in 1969.
“Teener” was an avid sports fan and lifetime Cubs and Blackhawks fan. He was thrilled when the Cubbies won the World Series. He loved to read books; do crosswords and acrostics puzzles; play bingo, video poker, and slots; and horse racing. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Woodstock.
He is survived by two daughters, Kristine (Martin) Victory and Kathleen Philipp; a granddaughter, Savanna Victory (fiancé, Robert Vicary); three great-grandchildren, Leland, Julius, and William; a special daughter, Kimberly “Kimski” Hoesel (fiancé, Brent Bartell), of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, on May 1, 1979; his parents; a brother, Donald; his in-laws, Leverett and Lillian Lappin; and several other relatives and friends.
The family thanks all caregivers, nurses, staff, and volunteers at Valley Hi who cared for him, and the hospice team at JourneyCare who made his last days comfortable.
Visitation was July 15 at Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, and continued July 16 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodstock, where the funeral was held. Interment was in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. Memorials may be made to Mount St. Joseph, Lake Zurich, or Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodstock,
