Edwin Alexander Grell, 81

Edwin Alexander Grell, 81, of Woodstock, passed away July 5, 2025, surrounded by his family after deciding that living on dialysis was no longer the path he wanted to take.

Born on May 15, 1944, in Chicago, Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life, Margaret. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with unwavering love, laughter, and joy.

He is survived by his children, Thomas (Annette) Grell, Jonathon (Jacqueline) Grell, and Jennamarie (Travis) Test; his grandchildren, Jerred, Alexandria, Edwin, Bradley, Nicholas, William, and Kaitlyn; as well as his in-laws, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As a child, Ed lived in Woodstock for several years before his family moved to Mt. Prospect. Ed returned to Woodstock with his own family in 1977, where he remained until his passing. He spent 25 years with Midas International LLC, retiring as chief accounting officer. Ed was an avid cyclist and rode thousands of magnificent miles across Illinois and Wisconsin. He joyfully sang his way through life with generosity, remarkable strength, and a trademark quirkiness that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 Seminary Ave., Woodstock, from 9 a.m. until moving to St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave., Woodstock, where Mass of christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Child Fund, Int. a cause that Ed and Margaret supported faithfully for decades.
