Dorothy M. Cox died peacefully in her sleep on April 23 after nearly 87 trips around the sun..
She was born Dorothy Heiden in Blue Island, Ill., on June 23, 1932, and lived there for more than seven decades before moving to Woodstock, Ill. Dorothy lived a beautiful life as a wife, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend to many.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, watching Cubs and Bears games, volunteering in her community, and spontaneous trips to the Dollar Store. Dorothy preferred cigarettes and Manhattans over gym memberships, and laughter over tears, as she always had a joke to share.
She loved her family and friends above all. Dorothy is survived by her children, Kenneth (Simon Blanco) Cox, James (Wendy) Cox, and Cheryl (Fred Markowitz) Cox; grandchildren Christopher Frum, Griffin Cox, Max Markowitz, and Sylvia Markowitz; sister Margaret Mueller; and brother Fred Heiden.
She was preceded in death by her son Greg and her husband of 48 years, James Cox.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Stage Left Café, 121 Van Buren St., Woodstock, on May 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. Please join Dorothy’s family in celebrating her sweet life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to Warp Corps (a local L3C, community-based prevention program that fights suicide and substance abuse in Northern Illinois), 114 N. Benton St., Woodstock, IL 60098.
