David Alan Schmidt

David Alan Schmidt, 74, Greenwood, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Hearthstone Manor Nursing Home, Woodstock.

He was born March 15, 1938, in Woodstock to William H. and Edith (Gorham) Schmidt. 

On Aug. 21, 1965, he married Judith A. Walther in Chicago.

He served in the National Guard from 1961 to 1966. He worked as a carpenter and was owner of David Schmidt Construction for many years.

He also was a volunteer fireman with the Woodstock Rural Fire District from 1965 until 1980 and a member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge. 

He enjoyed fishing and working in his garden and loved all his pets.  He was loved by many and will be missed.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen (Patrick) O’Hagan and Jeanne (Ronald) Schroeder; a sister, Carol Baker; a granddaughter, Emily Schroeder; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, James A. Baker.

A memorial gathering will be held at  10 a.m. and a memorial service at noon, Saturday, Dec. 8, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock.

Burial will be private.
