Charlene O’Leary, 90, Woodstock, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015.

She was born June 21, 1925, to Fred and Elizabeth Krohn in Ringwood.

On June 15, 1946, she married Leonard “Dude” O’Leary.

She twirled batons through the Great Depression and first set her eyes on her future husband while working at the McHenry movie theatre as a teenager. The couple raised four children in Woodstock, and, as the first family to reside on the street, they were responsible for naming Hercules Road.

A lifelong learner and an avid reader, she returned to school after her kids were grown, earning an associate’s degree. She worked as a bookkeeper for O’Leary Construction. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Woodstock. She loved bingo, traveling with her family, a good garage sale and flying kites with her grandkids.

Survivors include a brother, Patrick (Marcia) Krohn; a sister, Noreen Curulewski; two sons, Timothy (Carolyn) O’Leary and Michael (Debbie) O’Leary, both of Woodstock; a daughter, Tina (Mike McEvoy) O’Leary, Crystal Lake; six grandchildren, Liam (Kristen), Conor (Sarah), Brenna, Maggie, Kate and Meghan; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Linda; a sister, Donna Bell Glosson; and brother, Fred Krohn.

Visitation and funeral were held Aug. 18 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.

Memorials can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 11 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1800, Chicago, IL 60603.

Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home.
