Bobby Ray Smith, 61, McHenry, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital, Madison, Wis.

He was born Dec. 22, 1954, to Grover and Vernie (Ward) Smith in Greeneville, Tenn. 

On Aug. 23, 2003, he married Sandra Merryfield in McHenry.

He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1976.

He worked at Eagle Foods for more than 30 years. He was loved by many for his awesome and entertaining personality. His love for life was shared and celebrated around many campfires and cold beers with friends. He enjoyed old cars and old Western movies. He was a loving husband and a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife; four children, Cory (Amanda), Cassie (Logan), Scott and Shelly; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; his mother; a brother, Michael (Tammy) Smith; three sisters, Linda (Bill) Webb, Janice Schmidt and Shirley (Ted) Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation was Aug. 12 and the funeral was Aug. 13 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Memorials can be made to a veteran’s association or a cancer association of the donor’s choice.
