Barbara Shinabarger, 72

Barbara Shinabarger, a resident of Woodstock, Illinois, passed away on January, 22nd, 2025, at the age of 72 from cancer.

Barbara was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on December 27th, 1952. She graduated from Western High School in Parma, Michigan in 1975 as Salutatorian, and went on to study at Spring Arbor University, Oral Roberts University, Boston University, and Church of God Theological Seminary. She earned a Masters of Divinity and Masters of Counseling.

Barbara married Delbert Shinabarger in 1976, and the two served a life of ministry as pastors and counselors. In addition to numerous church roles, both served as chaplains in hospitals and nursing homes. Delbert passed away in 2014.

Together they are survived by their children: Jonathan and wife Amy, Daniel, David and wife Valerie, and Rachel, as well as granddaughter Chloe. Barbara is also survived by her brother Robert Kenney.

Barbara taught English as a Second Language at McHenry County College since 2005. She was well-loved by her students and colleagues, and built enduring friendships and strong connections.

Barbara is remembered for her extraordinary ability to serve, connect to others, and build them up. Her contagious enthusiasm, generosity, and cheerfulness were a constant blessing. Barbara had a love for animals and was the affectionate owner of many cats. A lifelong love of learning and languages, she loved to strike up conversations with strangers in different languages and hear their stories.

A visitation will be held at Woodstock Free Methodist Church, 934 N Seminary Ave, Woodstock, IL on Saturday January 25, 2025 from 9:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service. Interment will be private.
