Barbara B. Carroll, 91

Barbara B. Carroll, 91, a lifelong resident of Woodstock, died, Aug. 31, 2022, at Northwestern McHenry Hospital.

She was born April 11, 1931, at Woodstock Hospital, South Street, to Frank H. and Madaline O. (Lang) Beilke, who predeceased her.

On May 19, 1951, she married Edward E. Carroll at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hartland. After celebrating a great marriage of 45 years, her beloved husband preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1996.

She graduated in 1949 from Woodstock Community High School with the class known as the “49ers.” She was an executive legal secretary/office manager in Woodstock law firms of Carroll, Leali & Gitlin, and law office of Louis F. Aiello, for 38 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock. She also was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Centegra Hospital and had been a volunteer in the Doty Road gift shop, a member of the McHenry County Fair Association, and a former member of HCE.

Her greatest gifts in life, she said, in addition to Edward, and surviving her, are her daughter, Kathleen Anne Fosnaugh; her son-in-law, Robert L. Fosnaugh; her grandchildren, Melinda (Jeffrey) Shafer and Ryan (Amanda) Fosnaugh; her great-grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, Hayley and Samantha Shafer, Caden and Dallas Fosnaugh, and Benjamin Hernacki. Further loved ones surviving are her special nieces Peggy (Ken) Thomas and Laurel (Jon) Sheahan; nephew James Kniebusch, all of Woodstock; and her long-time kind and caring friend, Ronald D. Hansen of Woodstock. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Kniebusch of Woodstock.

Pursuant to her request, services, and burial in Woodstock at McHenry County Memorial Park, will be private.
