Jane Schroeder Hagenow, 91

In loving memory of Jane Schroeder Hagenow, who passed away peacefully at her home in Woodstock, Illinois, on July 3, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Jane was born on June 7, 1935, in Palatine, Illinois, to Henry and Alvina Schroeder. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable life filled with laughter, love, and dedication to her family and community. 

Jane was a devoted wife to Clarence Martin Hagenow, whom she married on March 27, 1954. Together, they built a life rich in love and family, raising four children: LouAnn (Albert) Krejci, Laurene (Thomas) Brophy, Mark (Jacqueline) Hagenow, and the late Debra Doebert. Jane’s legacy continues through her nine cherished grandchildren—Aaron Krejci, Adam (Staci) Krejci, Jennifer (Duane) Hadley, Kevin Brophy, Andrew (Danielle) Brophy, Alex Krejci, Matthew (Erin) Brophy, Matthew Hagenow, Amanda (Kyle) Anderson—and her 15 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her days. 

Jane attended Palatine High School, graduating in June 1953. She began her career with Illinois Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator, until technological changes of a new “Dial” system was implemented.  She then chose to focus on her family as a stay-at-home mom from 1956 to 1981. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her home, as she later worked in the housekeeping department at Sunset Manor (Hearthstone Communities) for 19 and a half years, retiring on June 30, 2000. Even after retirement, Jane’s heart remained with the residents, volunteering her time and sharing her musical talents by playing the piano. 

Jane had many talents and interests. One of her talents was playing piano, but she did not read music, she played by ear.  She would turn to the table of contents and play from there.  She had a large garden, providing the best canned and frozen goods throughout the year. She and Clarence enjoyed spontaneous drives, with Jane often curious to explore where new roads would lead them. Her infectious laugh and sense of humor brightened the lives of those around her, and she will be fondly remembered for her love of life, people, and especially her family. 

Preceding Jane in death are her beloved parents, Henry and Alvina Schroeder; her husband, Clarence Hagenow; her sisters Bernice (Mick) Martin, Lorraine (Ralph) Kehe; her brothers Donald (Nancy) Schroeder, Wayne (Violet) Schroeder; and her daughter, Debra Doebert. 

A memorial gathering to honor Jane’s life will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 10:30 AM until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 PM at the Schneider Leucht Merwin Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 North Seminary Avenue, Woodstock, IL 60098. 

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Candy G, Debbie B, Robin L, Tammie B, Maya O, Sally L, and all the caregivers through Home Instead and Journey Care, for their supportive, compassionate, and loving care provided to Jane.  Also, to Pastor Dan and Pastor Randy who provided her with spiritual comfort during the past few months. 

Jane’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her, as her spirit continues to inspire kindness, joy and much laughter.
