David “Dave” Allen Petrie, 90

David “Dave” Allen Petrie, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026. He was born on November 22, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Dave built a successful career in the newspaper distribution industry, owning three agencies in Chicago before moving to Woodstock because he purchased the Woodstock News Agency. He was an active member of the Woodstock High School Backers Club and Football Chain Gang, showing his strong support for local youth and athletics.

Sports were a lifelong passion, especially golf. Dave began as a caddie at Evanston Country Club and, after retiring from his newspaper career, became a golf starter at Edgewood Valley Country Club in La Grange, Illinois. There, he combined his love of the game with his gift for connecting with people until retiring at age 87.

Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Judy Petrie; his daughters, Deb (John) Gregory and Kim (Dennis) Favaro; his grandchildren: Jared (Megan) Favaro, Brianne (Josh) Arevalo, David (Dana) Gregory, Dana Wasicke, Paige (Gustavo) Martinez, Kailey (Dior) Pulatova, Ryan (Abby) Gregory; his great-grandchildren: Jude Favaro and McKenna & Logan Arevalo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Allen Petrie, as well as his in-laws, Bernice and Fred Schreiber.

Dave will be remembered for his kindness, humor, devotion to family, and love of Chicago sports.

A celebration of life will be held August 1, 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Evans Scholars Foundation or Woodstock Food Pantry.
