Edward Leroy Station, 90

It is with great sadness and love that the family of Edward Leroy Station, 90, shares his passing on April 12, 2026. His family was by his side in his home as he peacefully passed, after a short battle with cancer.

Ed was born on May 19, 1935, in Chicago to Edward M. and Marion (Lattiak) Station. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School where he was an altar server and member of the School Safety Patrol. He went on to Washburn Trade School for two years.

When Ed was 6, he lost his father. Living in Chicago during the war was not easy for the family. He started delivering papers at the age of 9 and set pins in the local bowling alley at the age of 12. He was saving the money earned to buy an old Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 15 and left Chicago for a better life.

He settled in the Harvard/Woodstock area working as a farmhand till he was old enough to work in a factory. He was blessed with a mentor, George, when he started working at Autolite in Woodstock. George took Ed under his wing and taught him the ins and outs of being an industrial electrician. This led to his lifelong career as an industrial electrician.

His career path was temporally interrupted when he was drafted into the US Army in 1958. He was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for basic training, earning awards and qualifying for Airborne School while there. He moved to Fort Campbell, Ky., with the 101st Airborne unit (a/k/a The Screaming Eagles). He had participated in over 15 jumps before he was honorably discharged in 1960.

Ed was very committed as an industrial electrician. He spent 50 years traveling to Niles. Though he worked for three different companies, he remained in the same building. Ed Started with Barr Co, continued with CCL, and finished with Halls Rentals, leaving only because of Covid.

Ed married Eleanor Mass in 1960, and theymade their home in Woodstock for 65 years. During that time, they raised their three children: son, Edward Arnold, and daughters, Mary Ellen, and Patricia Kay.

Ed is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his daughters, Mary E. Gundlach and Patricia (James) Hazelbower; seven grandchildren, James (Holly), Eric (Amy), Deyona (Jason), Christopher, John (Ellie), Anthony (Lea), and Glen (Jamie); 13 great-grandchildren, Thomas, Scott, Elizabeth, Baxton, Bailey, Keira, Niko, Keaden, Kellen, Declan, Oliver, Liberty, and Delilah; and one great-great-grandchild, Riley.

He will also be missed by brother-in-law, Stanley (Debbie) Mass, as well as many nieces and nephews, plus many wonderful neighbors and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Edward Arnold; his sisters, Charlotte and Vivian; and his best friend and faithful companion for 13 years, his loving dog Brandy.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at noon at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, IL 60098.
