Mary (Maureen) Teresa Kammermeier, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025. She was 85 years old.
Maureen was born March 26, 1939 in County Mayo, Ireland, to Edward and Nora (Jeffars) Hopkins, Maureen emigrated to Chicago, where she was raised alongside her sister, Barbara (Hopkins) Higgins, and her brother, the late Larry Hopkins. She dedicated her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse, a profession that reflected her compassionate and nurturing spirit.
On April 27, 1963, Maureen married the love of her life, Ralph Kammermeier, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years until his passing in 2020. Together, they built a beautiful life in Woodstock, Illinois, raising six children and instilling in them the values of love, faith, and perseverance. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding immense joy in the time spent with her family.
Maureen enjoyed many of the same activities that brought Ralph happiness, including their summers in Lake Geneva, swimming, boating, and spending time with family. She also enjoyed their home in Florida. She especially loved playing tennis with the Pelican Sound tennis team, where she formed lasting friendships and remained active in the sport she loved.
She is survived by her six children: Michelle (Peter) Hedlin of Woodstock, IL; Linette (Geoff) Van Flandern of Wellesley, MA; Mark (Mary) Kammermeier of Lake Geneva, WI; Renee (Rusty) Hopp of Spring Grove, IL; Dione (Brian) Ross of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Carl (Valerie) Kammermeier of Venice, FL. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her eighteen grandchildren: Erika (J.J.) Baginski, Danielle (Brendon) Smith, and Lauren (Daniel) Barber; Elizabeth (Hunter) Boesch, Erin, Claire, and Michael Van Flandern; Katherine and Jack Kammermeier; Johnathan, Katelyn, and Brian Hopp; Morgan, Peyton, and Amada Ross; Cole and Kella Kammermeier. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Declan Smith, and Logan Baginski.
Sadly, she was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Erin Marie Van Flandern and Gretchen Kammermeier.
Maureen will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family, her kindness, and the warmth she brought to everyone she met. She was a source of strength and love, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Memorial Gathering for Maureen will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave, Woodstock Illinois. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday February 25, 2025 at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave, Woodstock, Illinois. Interment to follow in Calvery Cemetery in Woodstock.
