Carl Edward Mick, 89

Carl Edward Mick, 89, died at his home Oct. 20, 2018, following a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born April 20, 1929, at home in Hillcrest, Columbiana County, Ohio, to Eugene and Beatrice (Klavuhn) Mick.
On June 7, 1958, he married Diane (Hagie) in Woodstock. They had three children.
He was an Army veteran. He worked various heavy construction projects throughout the U.S., including the Illinois Tollway. He was a machinist for 5 years at Harnischfeger Corp., 34 years at Union Special, and, following his retirement, several years at Harmony Manufacturing.
Carl enjoyed his leisure time relaxing, watching favorite TV shows, playing golf, traveling, volunteering at Gettysburg National Military Park, and most importantly supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities, be it varied athletic competitions or academic activities. He took great pride in all of their endeavors.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; their three children, Carlene (Howerth) Mick-Dechant, Kevin (Julia) Mick, and Melanie (Olaf) Borchert; grandchildren, Jason Rueff, Mick Borchert, Paxson Dechant, Sutter Borchert, Yeager Borchert, Louden Borchert and Torunn Mick; and great-grandson, Maddux Rueff.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold Mick; and his sister, Pauline Sandecki.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 24, in the Chapel at the First Congregational Church, 461 Pierson, Crystal Lake, Ill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Carl’s memory to the Gettysburg Foundation, P.O. Box 4629, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
