Carolyn Marie Schmidt

Carolyn Marie Schmidt, 97, Woodstock, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at Hearthstone Manor.

She was born May 6, 1914, in McHenry, to John and Barbara (Hein) Regner. She was a registered nurse, and in 1944 began employment at Memorial Hospital of Woodstock. She retired after 29 years of service but continued volunteering for many years.

She married Oliver Stratton June 3, 1937. They were active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Little League and Junior Theatre Group and the Theatre Guild of the late ‘40s and early ‘50s at the Woodstock Opera House. He passed away May 11, 1967.

She married Harold Schmidt Sept. 4, 1971. They traveled widely on this continent and other continents until his death in 1984.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Arnold and Clarence Regner; and five sisters, Catherine Morton, Leona Rauen, Amelia Kline, Elsie Winkel and Louise Ferraro.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce (Nicky) Stratton, Springfield, and Dr. Russell (Sandra) Stratton Georgetown, Texas; three grandchildren Charles (Julie) Stratton, Kate (Nik) Geranios, and Liesl Olson; and six great-grand children.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Schneider-Leucht- Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock.

The visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave., Woodstock, to be followed by the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock.

Memorials can be made to St. Mary Church, Woodstock, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
