Alex Misurelli

 

Alex Misurelli, 90, Crystal Lake, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock.

He was born April 29, 1922, in Chicago, to Louis J. and Mary (Urbanski) Misurelli. 

On June 12, 1948, he married Barbara Cecelia Kreuser at St. Viator Church in Chicago.

He graduated from Foreman High School. 

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and served until 1946 as a corporal in the South Pacific during World War II in the battles of Tarawa, Saipan and Okinawa. 

He was wounded June 18, 1944, while delivering a message warning of an enemy counterattack and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He and his wife lived in Des Plaines, Barrington and Richland Center, Wis., before moving to Crystal Lake in 1985. 

Throughout his career as a machinist, he worked for Allied Products-Pheoll Mfg., retiring after 37 years, and subsequently worked for Baker Perkins Printing Presses, Rockwell Corp. and WebPro. 

He loved polka music and fishing. He was a devoted and proud grandfather and was a caregiver for his wife in her later years.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph J. Sr. (Edie) Misurelli and Jeffrey Misurelli, Woodstock; two sisters, Alma Nordby (the late Ted) Stanek and Violet (the late Bill) Bartlett; four grandchildren, Alex, Joseph Jr., Dana and Jason Misurelli; five nieces, Gail, MaryBeth, Patty, Lisa, Michele and Christi; and three nephews, Bill, Jim and Steve.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years; a son, Thomas Misurelli in infancy; three brothers, Frank, Daniel, and Alfred Misurelli; a sister-in-law, June Misurelli; and a nephew, Dan.

The visitation was May 11 at Justen Funeral Home, McHenry.

The funeral Mass was May 12 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Crystal Lake.

Memorials can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or Masses would be appreciated.
