Alan Robert Swanson

Alan Robert Swanson, 90, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Woodstock to Earnest and Edith (Miller) Swanson.  

On Dec. 18, 1954, he married Gladys Henrys in Woodstock.

He was a member of the Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church.  He was a dairy farmer in Woodstock and was a member of the Woodstock Progressive Milk Producers Association, serving on the board for more than 41 years.  

He also was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Ridgefield Grange and the Woodstock Moose Lodge.  

He was a 4-H leader and an honorary lifetime member of the McHenry County Fair Board.  He served the community as a Dorr Township trustee.  

He always supported his family and Woodstock School District 200’s programs.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna Douglas, Diane (Joseph) Hellyer, Delores Swanson and Debbie (Steve) Ehlenburg; two sons, Donald Swanson and Dale (Lori) Swanson; 15 grandchildren, William (Kelly) Douglas, Andrea Douglas, John Douglas, Patrick Douglas, Christopher Hellyer, Tiffany (James) Ryan, Danielle Swanson, Stephanie Swanson, Jennifer Swanson, Adam Swanson, Michael (Holly) Ehlenburg, Katie Ehlenburg, Robert Ehlenburg, Hunter Swanson and Madelynn Swanson; 11 great- grandchildren, Nathan Douglas, Natalie Douglas, Biacana Stephany, Tyler Douglas, Jacob Stewart, Emma Douglas, Joshua Douglas, Connor Ryan, Hailey Ryan, Zachary Ryan and Christopher Savalick; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters, Audrey Ballard and Elaine Harmon; a brother, Raymond Swanson; a son-in-law, William Douglas; and his father-and mother-in-law, Henry and Eleanor Henrys.

Visitation was Oct. 12, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Visitation continued at the funeral home Oct. 13, followed by burial at McHenry County Memorial Park.  

A celebration of his life was held at the Ridgefield – Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church.

Memorials can be made to the Ridgefield – Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church, 8505 Church St., Crystal Lake, IL 60012, or to the family for designation in support of agricultural activities within the community.
