James A. Ogle Jr.

James A. Ogle Jr., 90, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at home.

He was born June 24, 1922, in Woodstock to James A. “Del” and Dorothy (Knaack) Ogle.

He married Grace M. Ackerman and later, Gloria Jean Perdue.

He attended Chicago Technical College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He built his own home where he lived with his family for more than 55 years.

He served in World War II with the 459th Bomb Group as a squadron leader in the Army Air Corps Reserve. He flew four-engined B-24 Liberator Bombers and received the Distinguised Flying Cross and Air Medal. 

During the Korean conflict, he worked with the Mid-Central Air Procurement Office as a production, procurement and preservation officer.  He retired with more than 20 years of service in the Army.

He spent his civilian working life as a machinist, tool maker designer, mechanical engineer and later, worked as a factory manager for NYSE company.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria; five sons, James A. (Anna) Ogle III, Robert (Joan) Ogle, J. Gregory Perdue, Donald (Marie) Ogle and Russell (Carol) Ogle; three daughters, Karen Lyons, Barbara (Patrick) Coghlin and Kathy (Steven) Houseman; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a loving caretaker, Ogie.

He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1962, and a son-in-law, Thomas Lyons, in 2005.

Visitation was Jan. 18 and 19 at Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock. The funeral was Jan. 19 at the church, followed by burial with full military honors provided by the VFW Post 5040 at Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock. Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.
