Sara J. Walkington

Sara J. Walkington, 92, Woodstock, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Dec. 16, 1924, to Kenneth and Althea (McLaughlin) Tuttle in Woodstock.  

On July 2, 1944, she married Glenn F. Walkington at Greenwood Methodist Church.

She worked for many years as a medical librarian for Woodstock Hospital. After retirement, she and her husband sold their home in Woodstock and moved to Green Valley, Ariz. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, crocheting, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She was also an avid reader. But, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her loving family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; seven children, Geoffrey (Patricia) Walkington, Gary (Diane) Walkington, Greg (Nancy) Walkington, Trish (Jim) Overly, Paul (Joann) Walkington, John (Jeanne) Walkington and Ruth (Jesse) Watson; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Phillip Walkington; and two sisters, Phyllis Hoekenga and Libby Tiller.

The visitation and funeral were March 27 at the First United Methodist Church,  Woodstock. Burial was at McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.
