Blue Streaks win regional volleyball title: Marian Central and Woodstock North end season in regional play

Marian Central and Woodstock North end season in regional play By Sandy Kucharski sandy@thewoodstockindependent.com Last week the Woodstock High School volleyball team brought home the program’s first regional volleyball championship trophy in 16 years . Competing in the IHSA 3A Rockford Boylan Catholic Regional, the Streaks defeated Rockford Boylan Catholic (25-9, 25-19) on Oct. 24. Two days later, they defeated Crystal Lake South (25-15, 26-24) to become regional champions. They moved on to the Woodstock North Sectional, playing Prairie Ridge this past Monday. Results of the game were not available by press time. If they won, the sectional championship game would be Wednesday Nov. 1. Marian stopped short Marian played in the IHSA 2A Richmond-Burton Regional Oct. 23, defeating Marengo (25-17, 25-16). Moving on to round 2, the Hurricanes played Richmond-Burton Oct. 24, winning (21-25, 25-17, 25-14). On Oct. 26, despite a good fight, the Lady ’Canes fell to Rockford Christian (28-26, 21-25, 25-12), bringing their season to an end. Head coach Robin Secrist reported the following stats for top performers: Ella Conlon - 16 kills, 11 digs, and 1 block; Jordan Orlos - 5 kills and 3 blocks; Anna Lingle - 24 assists and 2 aces; Jilly Winkelman - 10 digs and 3 assists; and Alex Rewiako - 9 digs, 2 aces, and 1 assist. Thunder vs. Blue Thunder Oct. 24 Woodstock North faced Crystal Lake Central in Belvidere North Regional. They won (25-18, 11-25). On Oct. 26 they played Belvidere North for the regional championship.
