WHS’s Hagmann medals in girls 2A
Two area runners competed in the IHSA state cross-country meet, Nov. 4, at Detweiller Park, Peoria.
In her second trip downstate, junior Kylie Hagmann represented Woodstock High School in the Girls Cross-Country Class 2A State Finals. Hagmann, medalled in the race, finishing in 13th in 17 minutes, 35 seconds out of a field of 208. She cut 14 seconds off her time from the state finals last year.
“I’m really happy with how my race went today,” said Hagmann. “My goal was to beat my PR [personal record] from last season and I was happy that I was able to do that. It was an honor to be able to race at state again.” She credited her coaches and teammates for helping her reach her goals each season.
Hagmann also runs distance with the WHS track and field team in the spring.
Sophomore Ryan Jones represented Marian Central Catholic High School in the Boys Cross-Country Class 1A State Finals, finishing 32nd, (15:41) out of a field of 210 runners. He competed in the same race as a freshman, finishing within three seconds of his race this year.
“I am very happy with my race,” said Jones in an email. “The course was a little wet and muddy but the temperature was perfect.”
Jones traveled to the state meet accompanied by his teammate Eli Jankowski and his two coaches.
Jones does not compete in a winter sport at Marian, but said, “I am either training with the Marian indoor team or returning to swim with the Dolphins to prepare for track. I have not decided yet.”
