All three area volleyball teams faced season-ending losses this past week in their respective IHSA regional playoff matches.
At the IHSA Class 3A Woodstock High School Regional, the Woodstock North High School Thunder (20-16-1 overall, 5-7 Kishwaukee River Conference) defeated the Woodstock Blue Streaks (4-13 overall; 2-10 KRC) in the first round with a 25-16, 26-24 win Oct. 23.
The Thunder then faced No. 1-ranked Antioch and won their first set 25-11. The Sequoits responded by winning the next two sets 25-17 and 25-19 to knock the Thunder out of contention.
Thunder’s Brooke Amann had 14 kills, nine digs and two aces. Sami Long had nine digs, six kills and three aces. Lauren Kunke had 12 digs and four aces. Grace Huelsman had five kills and two blocks.
Antioch went on to win the regional title.
At the IHSA Class 4A Stevenson Regional, the No. 10 Marian Central Cathoic Hurricanes (15-21 overall; 2-5 East Suburban Catholic Conference) lost 25-19, 25-21 in the first round to No. 7 Stevenson. -The ’Canes will graduate just three seniors from their 2017 roster.
