Woodstock North High School will begin the 2017-18 boys basketball season with new coach who has a passion for the sport and a heart for WNHS. Dale Jandron grew up in a Hebron family with a strong basketball tradition and started coaching at a young age.
“When you love it, it comes naturally,” he said of coaching.
Jandron started the Woodstock Recreation Basketball League, giving elementary school-age boys early exposure to the game and an opportunity to build skills, and serving as a feeder program for the high schools. Most recently, he coached varsity boys basketball in Hebron for two years, but made the decision to resign when the oldest of his two sons, Drew, started playing high school basketball at WNHS.
He enjoyed following both sons, Drew and Josh, through their high school careers. Both exceptional players, Josh is in the record books as the school’s all-time leading scorer.
After that chapter closed, Jandron was ready to step back on the court in a coaching capacity.
“I’ve been waiting for this [opportunity],” said Jandron. “It’s a bucket list thing.”
The Thunder will begin their season at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at home in the first round of the Hoops for Healing tournament.
