Multiple homes on Barbary Lane were hit with bullets
A Woodstock man was arrested and charged in connection with gunfire which struck several Woodstock houses last week.
Maurice C. Timberlake, 18, was taken into custody by the Woodstock Police Department and the McHenry County SWAT team Oct. 21. He is alleged to have fired multiple rounds which hit houses in the 700 block of Barbary Lane Oct. 20, according to the Woodstock Police Department.
Woodstock police responded to a report of gunfire on Barbary Lane at 3:28 a.m. that day. An investigation by police found numerous rounds had been fired and that at least two residences on the block were struck by at least one bullet each, according to the WPD.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police later recovered the gun they believe was used in the shooting. It had been stolen, according to the WPD.
“[Timberlake] is the only person we suspect at this time in the actual firing of the weapon,” Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said. “We believe that there may be an accomplice in regards to the theft of the weapon.”
Lieb would not speculate as to whether the homes hit with gunfire were targeted by Timberlake.
“He invoked his Fifth Amendment rights, and more investigation needs to occur,” he said.
Timberlake was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, a class 2 felony; unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a class 3 felony; burglary, a class 2 felony; theft under $500, a class A misdemeanor; criminal trespass to a vehicle, a class A misdemeanor; illegal possession of ammunition without a Firearm Owners ID card, a class A misdemeanor; and possession of a firearm without a FOID card, a class A misdemeanor.
His court date was set for Oct. 25.
