All area high school golfers played in regional matches last week, with several golfers, boys and girls, advancing to sectionals.

Marian girls

The Marian girls team had a strong showing at the IHSA Class 2A Regional tournament Oct. 4, at Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport. The team placed third.

Freshman Lauren McNulty led the team with a score of 89. Senior Maria Mercurio was one stroke behind with 90. Rounding out the team are senior Ally McNulty (98), junior Danielle Lattanzio (100), junior Kelly Anderson (101), and senior Lucca Kenyon (102).

The team advanced to play at the Barrington sectional Oct. 9 at Makray Memorial Course, Barrington.

No Marian girls advanced beyond the sectional.

Coach Erin Carver said it was a tough course and the competition was very stiff. She congratulated her team on their season and said, “We are the first team from Marian that ever made it past regionals in 2A.”

Marian boys

The Marian boys also are advancing as a team to sectional competition. The team placed third at the boys golf regional, Oct. 3, hosted by Harvard at Abbey Springs Golf Course.

Brothers James (86) and Andrew (88) Lydon led the team to qualify for sectionals. Sophomore Daniel Stumpf tied Andrew Lydon with 88, followed by senior Dante Bucci (94), sophomore Brogan Pivnicka (95), and sophomore Quinto Urban (103).

The team was expected to play Oct. 10 in the Grayslake Central Sectional at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club. Results were not available at press time.

WHS/WNHS co-op boys

Woodstock High School’s Evan Bridges was the lone qualifier for sectionals from the WHS/WNHS co-op boys team. Bridges shot an 83 Oct. 3 in the IHSA 3A Regional tournament at Bull Valley Golf Club, hosted by Woodstock.

Bridges played Oct. 9 in the Gurnee Sectional at Bittersweet Golf Course, Gurnee.

WHS/WNHS co-op girls

The Woodstock co-op girls competed as individuals at the IHSA Regional tournament Oct. 4 at Park Hills in Freeport. Junior Kenna Miles, WHS, shot an 87 to land her in the top 10 players to advance as individuals to play at the Barrington Sectional Oct. 9 at Makray Memorial Course, Barrington.
