A new gym is coming to Woodstock soon.
Owner Jennifer Robson said she is close to opening the doors at Focus Health and Fitness, 123 S. Eastwood Drive. The independent gym takes up two commercial spaces in a strip mall near Jewel-Osco.
“I’ve spent the last 20 years in corporate consulting,” Robson, of Hebron, said. “I’ve always thought about getting into my own business and out of the corporate world.”
Robson said the inspiration for opening her own gym came last year, while she was training for a marathon. She’d been certified as a fitness trainer years earlier, but her own exercise regimen was enough to convince her to take the leap.
Robson hopes to open the gym the first week in October, pending permit approval.
Focus Health and Fitness will offer circuit-style classes and personal training as well as open gym sessions with weights and cardio equipment. The gym’s lead trainer is Lindsey Williams of Woodstock.
“The goal is to get people to come in and get excited about exercise,” Robson said. “It’s about creating an environment that’s inviting and one that’s not going to put people down or turn people away.”
Robson said she chose a location along Eastwood Drive because of its high visibility. Although this is the first gym she has opened, she eventually plans to branch out, possibly to McHenry or Lake Geneva, Wis.
“This will be the inaugural location, but the intent is to expand to the surrounding communities as well,” she said.
