Marian Central hosted St. Francis Aug. 30 in a tough home court matchup.

The Spartans, an IHSA Class 4A team from Wheaton, defeated Marian Central in two sets, 25-19 and 25-12.

For the `Canes, Rachel Graham contributed three kills and one block. Issy Nick had three kills and four digs. Kate Messino had eight assists and one ace.

Brummond added that she was impressed with Gabby Davis and Graham.

“Gabby and Rachel have impressed me with their ability to stay in every option and keep a very even demeanor. They don’t get down, and that helps keep the rest of the team up,” Brummond said.

The Lady `Canes also fell to Kaneland in an away match Aug. 31, 25-20 and 25-11.

“We are learning every match, and it is a long season, so we will move forward and keep working,” Brummond added.
