Sossong was assistant principal at Catholic school in Cary
St. Mary Catholic School in Woodstock welcomed Vincent Sossong as its new principal Aug. 1.
Sossong earned his Bachelor of Arts in secondary education from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his Master of Arts in school leadership from Concordia University.
He taught at McHenry High School, St. Thomas the Apostle School in Crystal Lake and most recently served as assistant principal at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Cary.
Sossong replaces former St. Mary Principal Brenda Baldassano.
Sossong and his wife, Penny, are raising Taso, 10; Vinny, 7; Philomena, 5; and Yanni, 3 in their home parish of St. Patrick’s in McHenry. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Cub Scout leader, an avid reader, golfer, and restorer of old cars.
“In my first weeks as principal at St. Mary’s, I have been welcomed openly and warmly by every family I have met,” he said.“It is obvious to me that each and every family has a deep commitment to this parish and school and to sharing our Catholic values.”
His No. 1 favorite activity is spending time with his kids, especially reading to them every night. They just finished “The Princess Bride” and are now reading “The Chronicles of Narnia” together.
“We are in a time where our children are constantly faced with distractions and temptations,” Sossong said. “As a community of faith, it is imperative that we all work together to help provide our youth with the tools they need to overcome these temptations.
“I look forward to working with all the family and staff members who willingly give of themselves to benefit the youth of our community,” he added.
