A smoky haze blanketing much of McHenry County today is the result of wildfires raging in Canada, authorities said.
Woodstock City Manager Roscoe Stelford said city employees have been in contact with the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District about the haze, which is covering the city. No active fires were reported in Woodstock today as of 11:30 a.m.
“It’s most likely coming all the way from Canada,” Stelford said.
Towns throughout the region are experiencing similar conditions. An advisory issued by the Prairie Grove Police Department said “winds are coming out from the north from Canada’s wildfires,” bringing smoke and haze to the area.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, last night’s cold front pulled the plume of smoke south.
