Police are examining video footage as part of an investigation into a fatal shooting that took place near the Woodstock Square last week.
Cesar Rangel, 41, of Woodstock, was found shot around 1:15 a.m. June 16 in a public parking lot at the corner of East Calhoun and South Jefferson streets.
Rangel, whose identity was released by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office June 19, was pronounced dead after Woodstock Fire/Rescue District crews transported him to a local hospital.
The Woodstock Police Department announced in a press release June 21 that investigators have recovered video surveillance footage and other physical evidence related to the shooting. Teams from the WPD, the coroner’s office, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and the McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team are working on the investigation.
Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said he does not believe there is any heightened risk to the general public from the shooting.
WPD and MIAT continue to ask for help in identifying people involved in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the MIAT tip line at 815-363-2201. Callers will remain anonymous unless they wish to leave their identity.
People who provide their names along with tips or information leading to the arrest of an offender will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 from McHenry County Crime Stoppers.
