A one-car crash in the early morning hours of May 7 claimed the life of a Woodstock man.

Crews from McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded at approximately 3:42 a.m. to the scene of a single-vehicle crash that occurred in the 1500 block of Lamb Road. A passerby called 911 to report a car on fire.

Omar Ocampo, 20, was traveling southbound on Lamb Road and left the roadway while navigating a curve. The car then collided with a tree and caught fire, according to a press release from MCSO.

Authorities identified Ocampo using dental records, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The fire was promptly extinguished, but due to damage to the vehicle, it is unknown whether airbags deployed or if Ocampo was wearing a seat belt , according to MCSO and the coroner’s office.

The coroner and MCSO continue to investigate the incident.
