A Huntley company was awarded a $2.18 million contract to build a roundabout at the intersection of Charles and Raffel roads in unincorporated Woodstock.
Landmark Contractors’ bid of $2,183,549.98 was accepted by the McHenry County Board, which voted to approve the contract April 18.
“Drivers who travel regularly on Raffel or Charles roads in Greenwood Township know firsthand that the intersection needs improvement,” McHenry County Division of Transportation Director Joseph Korpalski Jr. said in a press release.
Last year, the board opted not to approve any bids for the project, the lowest of which was $2,229,600.
The intersection is classified as a “5 Percent Location,” which means a high number of severe accidents happen there, according to McDOT.
Construction is expected to begin this spring and continue through early fall.
