Dr. William B. Fischer, 95, Fontana, Wis., formerly of Woodstock, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, in Walworth, Wis.
He was the beloved husband of the late Vicki C. Fischer and the late Eileen M. Fischer; loving father of three daughters, Peggy (Terence) Eiden, Mary Katherine (T. Chris) Roth and Pamela (Philip) Delaplane; grandfather of seven; great-grandfather of three; dear son of Frank L. and Elizabeth Fischer; loving brother of the late Frances and Lauretta; and uncle.
Dr. Fischer began work at age 10, helping his father with his business. He participated and supported the Chicago Boys Club, graduated in 1939 from St. Benedict High School, Chicago, and graduated in 1943 from De Pauw University, Greencastle, Ind., with a major in premedical science. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, graduated from Northwestern University Medical School as a physician in 1945 and served a tour of duty in Okinawa in 1947 where he discovered his interest in orthopedics. He continued this specialty at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, followed by a fellowship at Evanston Hospital, Evanston. He joined Wesley Hospital and Northwestern Medical School, Chicago, as an attending orthopedic surgeon until his retirement 1985.
The Fischers supported many charities, religious and educational institutions and the arts. They enjoyed their friends from the Lake Geneva Country Club and the Woodstock Country Club.
A memorial Mass was held April 10 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fontana, Wis. Interment was private.
