A Woodstock High student was selected as an intern for a company that pushes to grow Woodstock through tourism and economic development.
Quinn Thornton, a WHS sophomore, was selected to work with Promote Woodstock and marketing firm a5. Through the internship, he will learn business practices and provide the company with unique insight.
Thornton was recommended based on work he has demonstrated in the INCubatoredu class, according to WHS Principal Justin Smith.
“Quinn is a young man who does an incredible job building relationships and possesses an internal drive which has helped him become recognized as a natural leader within our INCubatoredu course,” Smith said.
Promote Woodstock is a city-funded public-private partnership intended to increasing tourism and economic development in Woodstock. Its “Real Woodstock” brand uses digital and print marketing campaigns aimed at locals and tourists.
Promote Woodstock also will select a college intern to gain work experience. The two interns will make plans to expand the brand through social media and assist with management of events and experiences, among other duties.
“Instagram and other media that are very active among high school-aged people, or people in their 20s, are areas we want to concentrate on,” City Councilman Mike Turner said.
“It makes sense to get somebody in that demographic who can add to our team and help us with efforts that we want to get going in using those tools. There’s definitely a practical and real need for Quinn’s talents and knowledge. Additionally, it’s a really nice connection to the high school and to the programs that they’re doing,” Turner added.
Thornton, who is considering a career in a business-related field someday, has started his work with the company and said he likes the job.
“I enjoy the marketing field and decided why not give it a try. I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’m going to help them expand social media to Instagram, Snapchat and all that,” Thornton said.
