Woodstock’s newest addition to the downtown area, Mia Passione, 228 Main St., serves up what owner Michael Palmieri calls “Italian-American comfort food”.
The Italian eatery’s Woodstock location opened March 9. Palmieri also runs a location in River Grove, which opened in 2014.
As a child, Palmieri said he spent time watching his grandfather cook while living in New York City’s Little Italy. Many of the recipes used in the kitchen at Mia Passione — Italian for “my passion” — have come from his family throughout the years.
“I love cooking and I love people. Not many people open restaurants at age 60. This goes to show how much I love it, and this is what I want to do,” Palmieri said.
The restaurant features a full-service bar, fresh fish daily and a wide variety of entrees, including steaks, chops, pastas, pizza and ravioli. There are also gluten-free options available for diners. Palmieri said everyone in the kitchen has at least 13 years of experience in the field.
Palmieri said Woodstock has welcomed him and his business with open arms.
“It’s a really beautiful town, and people are so nice here. It’s overwhelming. It’s a wonderful community. Everyone has been really super here,” he said.
Mia Passione is open for dinner at 4 p.m. daily. The restaurant is closed Mondays. In the coming months, Palmieri plans to open earlier on weekends and said he wants to offer Sunday brunch.
The restaurant’s location previously was home to Off the Rails and Pirro’s Restaurante. According to Palmieri, the space was attractive not just for the dining and bar area but for the banquet facility upstairs, which can seat around 200 people.
