Rendezvous Bistro has new owners, a new look and a new menu.
Megan and TJ Liebetrau, both born and raised in Woodstock, purchased the restaurant just off Highway 14 in January with the goal of bringing something unique to the area.
Megan Liebetrau began working in restaurants at age 14, completed culinary school, owned a catering business and previously managed Harvest Moon restaurant on the Square. Her husband currently works as a firefighter and paramedic in Arlington Heights when he’s not helping his wife with the business.
Rendezvous Bistro offers a small-plate, grazing-style experience that aims to encourage guests to visit and take their time enjoying each other’s company. The business first opened in February 2016 under different ownership.
“We do small plates, tapas-style. It’s nice to come with a few people and have a few different things, and it’s kind of a grazing experience rather than fill up right away and be done,” Megan Liebetrau said.
The menu, put together with the help of local chef John Havlis, includes a variety of soups, salads, dips and spreads, small plates, and desserts. The menu includes options for vegan and gluten-free diners.
The drink menu features a variety of specialty martinis, wines and beer. Monday nights feature half-price wine bottles, and Tuesday nights offer martini specials.
“We’re going for something comfortable, casual. You can hang out with your friends and actually hear them talk, but still in a bar setting,” Liebetrau said.
The restaurant offers two dining areas, a bar and lounge area adjacent to video gaming machines. A separate area for private parties is available.
“I think it’s a unique location, because it’s outside of Woodstock a little bit but it’s not too far outside of town. We can draw from Crystal Lake and Bull Valley. It’s not a drive for anybody, really,” added Liebetrau.
Rendezvous Bistro is located at 2400 Lake Shore Drive and is open from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Visit RendezvousWoodstock.com for information.
