Marian Central wrestlers finished 2-1 at the Dundee-Crown Quad in Carpentersville Dec. 10.
Despite being down three starters due to injury and ACT testing, the Hurricanes pulled out a win over Hersey 44-36 and Waukegan 52-18. The team fell to Dundee-Crown 36-42.
Junior Luke Silva, 152-pound weight class, went 3-0 at the quad with three pins. He is currently at 11-0 on the season. Senior Anthony Silva, 145, also went 3-0 with three pins and is 10-1 on the season. Junior Patrick Brunken, 208, finished 3-0 with one pin.
Junior Anthony Randazzo, 132, was 3-0 with two pins. Commenting on his 11-0 record for the season, he attributed his success to his team and coaches.
“It’s a mixture of my wrestling partners, Anthony Silva, Luke Silva and Daniel Valeria. The coaching has been tremendous. It’s helped me so much this year. Having them be there for me, teaching me new things. The coaches help me by coming together and letting me know I have someone there for me when I know I need them,” Randazzo said.
“The team really gels together. They’re really there for each other. It is incredible,” said assistant coach Tony Randazzo. “I’ve been coaching wrestling for a long time both in youth and high school, and I’ve never seen a team gel like this. They get along so well.”
The Hurricanes are at 9-2 on the season. Their upcoming matches are a quad at Larkin in Elgin Dec. 16 and a quad at McHenry East Dec. 17.
