The Marian Central Catholic High School girls tennis team placed 20th at the IHSA Class 1A state tennis championship held at Buffalo Grove High School Oct. 20 to 22.

The Lady ’Canes were led by a top-12 doubles finish from seniors Caroline and Cate Yuk, who went 4-6 in the tournament. The Yuks dominated the first two rounds before falling to a doubles squad from Chicago’s Latin School. They won their first two consolation rounds, including a 6-0, 4-6, 12-10 battle against Notre Dame, Quincy. 

They lost their final match 4-6, 7-5, 10-7. 

Marian senior Kelly Mink lost both singles contests of her tournament. 

The Woodstock North Thunder placed 34th overall behind a two-point performance from senior Lulu Nicks, and one-point finishes from junior Faith Vela and freshman Aly Cullotta. 

The Woodstock High School Blue Streaks placed 49th overall. Seniors Shannon Fetzner and Brenda Ordonez went 1-3 (6-1, 6-0; 6-1, 6-2; and 6-3, 0-6, 12-10). 

Seventy-one schools entered the team competition.
