The Marian Central girls golf team finished sixth overall in the IHSA state finals Oct. 14 and 15.
“We are extremely proud that they qualified for the state tournament, and ended the season on a positive note,” said Curtis Price, Marian Central’s athletic director.
Marian Central qualified for the team final after a first-place win at sectionals one week earlier. They collectively finished the tournament with a score of 712. Delanie Sebion led the team with a 170, followed by Sophia Archos (174), Maria Mercurio (181), Lucca Kenyon (204), Ally McNulty (204), and Kelly Anderson (207).
Twelve teams qualified for the state tournament.
“Our goal this season was to make it to state,” Marian Central coach Erin Carver wrote in an email. “We accomplished that goal and the rest was icing on the cake.”
For the Woodstock co-op team, Daniela Miranda of Woodstock North finished in eighth place in individual play with a 163. Miranda finished her last nine holes 1 over par. Woodstock did not compete at the state finals as a team.
“I hope they enjoyed their experience,” Price said. “I went down to watch them on Saturday, and they all seemed to be having fun, and that’s what it is all about.”
The state final took place at Red Tail Run golf course in Decatur with 110 individual golfers from throughout Illinois making the cut.
