The local events a group organizes and sponsors are important to The Woodstock Independent. It is part of our job as a newspaper to publicize the information.

A press release should include the following information:

1. The event and who is sponsoring it;
2. The time, day, date and location of the event;
3. The purpose of the event;
4. The cost and registration deadline;
5. A phone number to call for information or tickets, the name of a contact person, e-mail address and Web site.

A second paragraph can include details about a guest speaker, what will happen at the event, who will benefit from funds raised and background information. Because we are a weekly newspaper, space is limited, so the release should be as brief as possible.

PHOTOS:  All the names of the people pictured must be listed from left to right. Photos can be picked up after they are published, or a self-addressed stamped envelope should be included.
Photos can be e-mailed as high resolution, large dimension JPEG attachments. We will size them as needed. All necessary information must be included in the e-mail along with the photo attachment.
With prior arrangements, we can sometimes send a photographer to special events.

Press releases are run only once. We cover events in Woodstock and Wonder Lake in the Woodstock School District 200 boundaries and some county events including information on schools, churches, nonprofit groups, clubs, community groups and some business briefs.

The deadline for press releases is noon Wednesday for the following week’s newspaper.
