Oskar H. Starick
Oskar H. Starick, 89, Hebron, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Gulben, Germany, to Friedrich Wilhelm and Marie (Knoefel) Starick. He served in the German Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Russia from 1945 to 1953. He moved to Chicago in 1956, where he married Maria A. Osterhues April 13, 1957.
He worked in Chicago and Arlington Heights as a bricklayer and then as a custodian for 21 years. After he retired in 1986, one of his greatest passions was sharing the produce from his organic garden. He also enjoyed bowling, baking and creating stained glass artworks. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Christel (Vic) Voltz, Barbara (Dwight) Luecht and Beatrix (Joseph) Lindquist; and five grandchildren, Jaclyn Voltz, Amber Luecht, Ryne Luecht, Jeremiah Lindquist and Joseph Lindquist.
A memorial gathering was Feb. 28 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
