Burton Winfield Schroeder
Burton Winfield Schroeder, 81, Camas, Wash., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.
He was born April 7, 1928, in Woodstock.
Before graduating high school, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout including three Eagle Palms. He enjoyed playing trombone in many bands.
After graduating from Carthage College, he entered Chicago Lutheran Seminary, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in 1953. He was ordained May 18, 1953, at Grace Lutheran Church, Springfield.
He was called to serve Nativity Lutheran Church, a mission church in Wonder Lake. In 1961 he received a call from another mission congregation, St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Beaverton, Ore., where he served until November 1969, when he was called to Zion Lutheran Church, Camas. In 1980, he accepted a call to St. Luke Lutheran Church, Spokane, Wash., and in 1986 his fifth call was to Resurrection Lutheran Church, in Tacoma, Wash. After retiring in 1993, he served four more congregations as an interim pastor, including Milwaukie Lutheran Church in Oregon, and Family of God Lutheran Church, Federal Way, Wash. After moving back to Camas in 2000, he rejoined Zion as visitation pastor.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lois; two daughters, Sally (Ron) Freed and Sue; three sons, Steve (Jana), Jim (Jean) and John; a sister, Marlene Botts, Woodstock; and six grandchildren, Kira, Ryne, Bryce, Brock, Katie and Kamryn.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, a brother and two young sisters.
A service was held Feb. 13 at Zion Lutheran Church, Camas. Burial was private.
