Frank E. Roth

Frank E. Roth, 79, Woodstock, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry.

He was born Nov. 9, 1930, on a farm near Barrington, to Frank L. and Emma (Gritmacker) Roth.

Most of his early life was spent working on the family farm in Woodstock. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and spent time in Korea.

He married Carol Ohlrich July 8, 1955, in Corinth, Miss.

Among the places he worked, his favorites were Western Contractors in Melrose Park, Midwest Contractors in Roselle and being a distributor for Mac Tools. He thoroughly enjoyed retiring in 1995. He had a lifelong passion for anything mechanical, especially airplanes, motorcycles, trains, caterpillars and tractors.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael (Colleen) Roth and Timothy (Denise) Roth; a daughter, Linda (Cary Handke) Roth; four grandchildren, Holly Roth, Kurt Roth, Gregory Roth and Louis Handke-Roth; three sisters, Leona DeVogelaere, Eleanor Setser and Dorothy (Henry) Linderman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elsie DeVogelaere; and four brothers-in-law, George Melka, Morris DeVogelaere, William DeVogelaere and Otis Setser.

Visitation and the funeral were Feb. 15 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Interment was private.
