Clara A. Oerkfitz Eisenmenger

Clara A. Oerkfitz Eisenmenger, 95, Woodstock, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Florence Nursing Home, Marengo.

She was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Genoa Township, to John and Alta (Baie) Becker. She married John W. Oerkfitz Oct. 27, 1935. After his death in 1949, she married Arthur Eisenmenger Nov. 1, 1969.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Woodstock, and volunteered for many church organizations. She taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She volunteered with the ladies of the church at nursing homes and volunteered her time with the Bethesda Gift Shop in Crystal Lake. She worked for the Woodstock Daily Sentinel from 1949 until her retirement in 1985.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Ginny) Oerkfitz, Stongsville, Ohio, and Robert (Susan) Oerkfitz, Woodstock; four grandchildren, Kristi (Edward) Skytte, Woodstock, Tim Oerkfitz, Woodstock, Rebecca (Rick) Garcia, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Mathew (Maryann) Oerkfitz, Atlanta; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jared Skytte and Sarah Shaver; and two stepchildren, Gerald (Elaine) Eisenmenger, Woodstock, William (Bev) Eisenmenger, Huntley, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husbands Oct. 5, 1949, and Dec. 16, 1990, respectively; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Kopsell Oerkfitz; two sisters, Alberta Lange and Lillian Kohl; and a brother, Arthur Becker.

The visitation and funeral were Feb. 2 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Woodstock. Interment was in Crystal Lake Union Cemetery, Crystal Lake.
