Bertram Gilbert Hanson

Bertram Gilbert Hanson, 86, formerly of Woodstock, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Wynscape Nursing and Rehab Center, Wheaton.

He was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Chicago to Adolph and Hilda Hanson.

After serving in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II, he finished his bachelor's degree at Augustana College, Rock Island, in 1948. He worked as an assistant administrator at Augustana Hospital, Chicago, and later at Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago. He attended the University of Chicago School of Hospital Administration. In 1956 he became the hospital administrator of Woodstock Memorial Hospital, where he remained for 25 years. He was responsible for several building expansion projects for the hospital. In 1981 he moved to Muskegon, Mich., and became the administrator of the Brookhavin Medical Care Facility, where he served for 10 years until his retirement in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Madelon; two daughters, Barbara (David) Vlack, St. Charles, and Beverly (Steve) Borta, Wonder Lake; two sons, Bruce (Cindy) Hanson, Wonder Lake, and Byron (Shirley) Hanson, Arvada, Colo.; five grandchildren, Andy Vlack, Westmont, Kevin Vlack, Indianapolis, John Borta, Wonder Lake, Jennifer (Travis) Tillman, Woodstock, and Jeff Borta, Wonder Lake; and five great-grandchildren, Gavin Vlack, Trinity Tillman, Taiden Tillman, Isabella Borta and Emilyn Borta.

Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Wyndemere Senior Living Campus, 200 Wyndemere Circle, Wheaton.
