The Marian Central Catholic High School girls soccer team celebrated senior night in style with a 5-0 victory over Driscoll Catholic High School Tuesday.
The Lady ’Canes ended a four-game losing skid. The Marian defense held the Highlanders to just two shots on goal.
With the Lady ’Canes’ commanding lead, senior goalie Brittany Hull was moved to offense in the second half.
“I loved today’s game. We tried really hard, and I got to play offense,” said Hull. “I love playing the field when there is a slow game like today’s.”
Good team play was the key to the win for Marian.
“We tried to communicate more ,and once we started to score, it got better,” said Marian head coach Jose Arias.
The Highlanders played with only 10 players and were no match for Marian’s offense. Junior Brittany Wuensch led the Lady ’Canes in scoring with two goals.
“I think we came together as a team, but what really helped was that we were enthusiastic, which helped us pull off a victory,” said Maggie Tully.
At halftime, the seniors were honored with their parents.
The Lady ’Canes are now 8-5-3 overall and in first place in the Suburban Catholic Conference at 5-1. Marian plays Woodstock High School today at 4:30 p.m. at Davis Park.
