The future looks better for the Meadows of West Bay subdivision, left incomplete due to the bankruptcy of builder Neumann Homes. A currently unnamed developer has purchased the land for development and plans to build the houses that Neumann Homes left unfinished.
“They will soon be back in production,” said village of Wonder Lake Trustee Lester Anderson.
Meanwhile, the attorney representing the village at the builder’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy hearing is continuing his work on behalf of the village. Neumann Homes built only 35 of a planned 581 homes in the Meadows of West Bay subdivision. Unfinished wastewater treatment services have put an extra burden on the village.
Village garage sale planned
for spring and summer
At the March 5 business meeting of the village of Wonder Lake trustees, dates for a village-wide garage sale were set. This year, the village of Wonder Lake will sponsor two garage sale weekends to be held May 16, 17 and 18 and Aug. 8, 9 and 10. During the weekends, residents may host garage sales without purchasing the otherwise required $5 permit.
The garage sales will be promoted through the village’s spring newsletter. In past years, local realtors have promoted the event through leaflets showing the location of participating homes. So far, no businesses are signed up to promote this year’s sale.
Village takes bids on new
police station/village hall
Also at the March 5 meeting, the village opened bids on a new police station and village hall. The new building will be built north of the current Village Hall on Thompson Road near West Wonder Lake Road.
Although at one point the building was only to be a temporary home, it is now planned as the permanent location of police and village services.
“The original intent was to make it a police building and turn it into a community center later,” said Village Trustee Ed Peters. “We were originally going to build another building in the Thatcher Meadows area.”
Thatcher Meadows, comprising 1,394 acres west/southwest of the lake, is expected to be annexed into the village soon.
The current Village Hall will be converted into meeting rooms and storage for parks and recreation and the homeowner’s association. It will also continue to house the public works garage.
