Zennith Vela, 80, Woodstock, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Hospice of Northwestern Illinois, Woodstock.
She was born June 18, 1927, in Muscoda, Wis., to Roy and Agnes (Olson) Briggs.
She worked for 15 years at Guardian Electric in Woodstock. For many years, she owned and operated the Dug Out Tavern in Woodstock.
Survivors include a son, Barry (Janice) Vermett; two daughters, Diane (Mark) Rush and Cindy Pena; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Zrita Cook and Betty Gassen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Patrick Vermett; a brother, Virgil; two sisters, Irene and Pauline; and a grandson, Brian.
The visitation and funeral were Feb. 20 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. Jim Campbell presiding. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock.

Ellen L. Weith, 76, McHenry, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Hearthstone Manor Nursing Home, Woodstock.
She was born March 24, 1931, in Chicago, to Louis and Lillian (Jensen) Vanick. She married Walter P. Weith Nov. 10, 1951, in Chicago.
She was an active and faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Woodstock. After raising her family, she went to work at Hearthstone Manor Nursing Home, where she was the head of housekeeping for more than 20 years.
Her greatest love was for her family. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always very involved in the young people’s activities and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include a daughter, Jill Holtz, McHenry; a son, James (Janine) Weith, Woodstock; seven grandchildren, Jason (Toni) Holtz, Jenelle Holtz, Jamison Holtz, Jeremy Weith, Joshua Weith, Jennifer Weith and Jaclyn Weith; a great-grandchild, Leah Holtz; a brother, Henry (Josephine) Vanick; and numerous nieces, nephews and caring friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2000; a son, Robert Weith; two brothers, Edward and Arthur Vanick; and a son-in-law, Phillip Holtz.
Visitation was Feb. 19 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral was Feb. 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Interment was in Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park.

Gertrude M. Schmidt
Gertrude M. Schmidt, 89, Woodstock, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock.
She was born Nov. 25, 1918, in Union, to Albert and Anna (Zickuhr) Thurow. She married Paul Schmidt June 25, 1941.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, where she was a member of the Sewing Circle and helped out with many other projects. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Woodstock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5040. She volunteered at the Easter Seals office and at Hearthstone Manor Nursing Home. She was an avid reader and most enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include a son, Gary (Mary) Schmidt, Schaumburg; three grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Schmidt, Schaumburg, Edward Schmidt, Elk Grove Village, and Amy Schmidt, Schaumburg; and a great-grandchild, Tyler Schmidt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Elna, Erna and Della; a brother, Alfred; and an infant son, Wayne.
The visitation and funeral were Feb. 22 at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Frances Olson officiating. Interment was in McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock.

Cecil H. Reise, 92, LeRoy, died Monday, Feb. 18, at LeRoy Manor, LeRoy.
He was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Collinsville, to Fred J. and Ethel H. Sartin Reise. He married Georgia O’Neall in 1940 in Ellsworth. She died Oct. 28, 1989. He later married Catherine J. Sutter March 25, 1995, in Downs.
He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1934 and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Downs United Methodist Church and of the Golden K of Bloomington.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine, LeRoy; a daughter, Jane Ellen (Norman S.) Meyer, Woodstock; a stepson, Harry (Renata) Sutter, Bloomington; three stepdaughters, Cindy (T.R.) Dowell, Salt Lake City, Pam (Bill) Collman, Bethalto, and Bonnie (Steve) Crumbaugh, LeRoy; three grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
The visitation and funeral were Feb. 21 at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, with the Rev. Mary Louise Haxton officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery, Bentown.

Lucille Knuth
Lucille Knuth, 83, Crystal Lake, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, in Woodstock.
She was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Crystal Lake, to Clarence and Alma (Fanter) Berkley. She married Martin Knuth April 8, 1944, in Crystal Lake.
She attended Crystal Lake schools and graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1942.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crystal Lake.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Arnold) Diedrich, Ringwood, and Debbra (David) Spitzbart, Woodstock; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Teresa) Diedrich, Jeana (David) Eaton, Elizabeth (Ryan Irwin) Diedrich, Todd Diedrich, Tara Diedrich, Brad Spitzbart and Ellen Spitzbart; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Eaton; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Knuth; a brother-in-law, Herman Knuth; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1979; a sister, Florence Benson; and two brothers, Elroy Berkley and Floyd Berkley.
The visitation was Feb. 19 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, Crystal Lake. The funeral was Feb. 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial was in McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock.

George Evan Rowland
George Evan Rowland, 82, Woodstock, former longtime resident of Naperville and Lombard, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock.
He was born July 14, 1925, in Rushville, to Thomas and Maurine Rowland. He married Mary Spates.
After graduating from Rushville High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge, he attended Bradley University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1949.
He enjoyed a long career as a mechanical engineer with United States Gypsum Co. He holds two patents for calcining gypsum kettles.
He loved singing and was a tenor with the West Towns Barbershop Chorus. He sang in numerous quartets, most recently with the Pitch Pipe Packin’ Papas. He was an Illinois Seniors quartet champion and sang in nine international chorus contests.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years; a son, Michael (Ellen) Rowland, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Maura (Steve) Bridges, Woodstock; and four grandchildren, Monica, Jeffery and Thomas Rowland and Evan Bridges.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Esther Boundy and Elizabeth Grafton; and a brother, Thomas Rowland.
Visitation was Feb. 18 at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, Naperville. The funeral was Feb. 19 at First United Methodist Church of Lombard. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Rushville Cemetery.

William H. Thompson
William H. Thompson, 59, Hanover, formerly of Woodstock, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at his home.
He was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Woodstock, to Allan and Alyce (French) Thompson. He married Arlys Ann Tuttle Aug. 10, 1968, in Woodstock.
He and his wife owned and operated Thompson’s Greenhouse in Woodstock for 35 years. He retired in 2005 and moved to Hanover. He and his wife joined Galena Bible Church, where they made many new friends and were active in many programs.
He loved the outdoors life and enjoyed fishing. He was also a fan of trains and tractors and enjoyed farming and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Joseph (Mary) Thompson, Woodstock; a daughter, Robin (Brian) Knoll, Woodstock; a grandson, Robert Thompson; a brother, Guy (Anita) Thompson, Greenwood; his mother-in-law, Irene Tuttle, Woodstock; a brother, Fred (Debbie) Thornton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Jan. 1, 2008.
Visitation and the funeral were Feb. 23 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Interment was private.
Lynn Roger Brown
Lynn Roger Brown, 66, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born Feb. 5, 1942, in Woodstock to Lawrence and Marian (Collen) Brown. He married Sandra Church April 28, 1962, in Woodstock.
He was co-owner of Brown & Co. Certified Public Accountants in Woodstock. He was an elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodstock. He was a past president of the Woodstock Kiwanis and served as its treasurer for many years. He was also a past member of the Woodstock Backers Club.
Survivors include his mother; his wife; two daughters, Lisa (David) Rosati and Laura Brown; a son, Jeffrey (Brenda) Brown; seven grandchildren, Andrew Rosati, Jordan Rosati, Tanner Rosati, Connor Augenstein, Emily Brown, Grace Brown and Nicole Brown; two brothers, Wayne (Christine) Brown and Dale (Teresa) Brown; a sister, Shirley (Robert) Gniech; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation was Feb. 24 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral was Feb. 25 at First Presbyterian Church, Woodstock.
Interment was at McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock.

John P. Gould, 72, Huntley, formerly of Woodstock, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at his home.
He was born June 26, 1935, in Evanston.
He was a 1953 graduate of Highland Park High School and a 1957 graduate of Brown University in Providence, R.I., where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi. He served his country as a U.S. Naval officer.
He was the former owner of Woodstock Glass and Mirror in Woodstock and was involved with Sertoma, the Young Presidents Organization, Rotary International and the Masons.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra (nee Shaghalian); two sons, Philip (Barbara), Grafton, Wis., and David Gould, Chicago; a daughter, Christine (Patrick) McDonough, Chicago; six grandchildren, Lauren, Austin and Stephen Gould, and Daniel, Timothy and Patrick McDonough; and a sister, Nancy (the late Donovan) Nelson, Boulder Junction, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Ruthe (nee Miller).
The visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the funeral at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Davenport Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
Interment will be private.

Kenneth J. Korst
Kenneth J. Korst, 74, Woodstock, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock, with family at his side.
He was born Nov. 13, 1933, in Flaxton, N.D., to William and Gertrude (Onstein) Korst. He married Gertrude A. Hinner March 2, 1957.
He graduated from Cooperstown High School, Cooperstown, N.D., in 1951. He served as a communication specialist in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1956.
He and his wife lived in Woodstock and celebrated 41 years of marriage before her passing in 1998.
He retired in 1999 as a production foreman at Morton Chemical Company, Ringwood, after 33 years of service.
He was a life member and past commander of Woodstock VFW Post 5040.
He enjoyed singing and playing golf. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He especially enjoyed fishing and boating, and he treasured time with his family and many friends at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Debbie) Korst, Morris; two daughters, Cheryl (Korst) Dye, Rockford, and Beverly (Brent) Schoepke, Big Bend, Wis.; a brother, “Ike” Korst, Tripoli, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Heidi (Zak) Jacobson, San Diego, Eric (Mary) Zingre, Rockford, James Zingre, Rockford, BreeAnne Zingre, Rockford, Kelly Korst, Champaign, Christopher Korst, Morris, and Monica Schoepke and Justin Schoepke, Big Bend; and a special friend, Milly Johnson, Crystal Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Norman and Robert Korst
A memorial service was held March 1 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.

Patricia Savino Bolger
Patricia Savino Bolger, 63, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, in McHenry.
She was born Feb. 23, 1944, in Chicago, to Raymond and Dorothy Ann Sharp. She married Murray Dean Bolger April 20, 2000.
She worked for Sterling Auto Body in Crystal Lake.
She helped with the annual Trail of History in Ringwood. She enjoyed anything having to do with nature, gardening or reading.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Savino, Greenwood, Michael (Shannon) Savino, Huntley, and David Savino, Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Peyton and Isabella Savino; a sister, Dorothy Mader, Hobe Sound, Fla.; and a brother, Richard Sharp, Scottsdale, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation was Feb. 24 at Colonial Funeral Home, McHenry.
Interment was private.
John K. Wett Jr.
John K. Wett Jr., 46, Crystal Lake, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois Inpatient Unit, Woodstock.
He was born May 6, 1961, in Havana, to John K. Wett Sr. and C. Judith Swanson.
He attended St. Mary School, Woodstock, and graduated from Marian Central Catholic High School. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was employed at KAM Tool and Die in Woodstock.
He was a devoted and dedicated father. He was a competent and gifted man, capable of fixing anything, and was a skilled carpenter. He loved animals and enjoyed his dogs and cat. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and being outdoors.
Survivors include a daughter, Jillian, Crystal Lake; a son, J.J., Sycamore; his parents, Washington; his loving companion and best friend, Holly Richard; two brothers, Michael (Robin) Wett, Arlington Heights, and Steve (Jeannie) Wett, McHenry; two sisters, Andrea (Tim) Brooks, St. Joseph, and Jennifer (Brien) Friend, Washington; 14 nieces and nephews; a special aunt, Marilou Wett, Woodstock; Holly’s children, Jeremy, Jennifer and Ryan Richard; three grandchildren, Davenport, Iowa; and many aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation was Feb. 25 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral was Feb. 26 at the funeral home.
