Each week, we publish 3,500 newspapers. Our main group of readers is homeowners between the ages of 35-55 with school-age children. The next largest group is senior citizens. Nearly all of our subscribers live in Woodstock, Wonder Lake and McHenry County. About 280 papers go to newsstands. When school is in session, 700 papers are distributed to schools participating in our Newspaper in Education program. According to our surveys, one-third of our newspapers are passed along and read by more than one household, resulting in a much higher readership.

WEEKLY AD SIZES & PRICES
Open Rate is $11.70 per column inch.
(Contract rates are available, and we offer a 20% discount on reruns.)

Deadline for placing ads is noon Thursday. (The newspaper is delivered to newsstands on Tuesday afternoons and to subscribers’ mailboxes Wednesdays.)

How to figure cost of an ad:
Number of columns x length (in inches) x $11.70 = Total Cost

Examples:
2 column ad x 4 inches tall: 2 x 4 x $11.70 = $93.60
2 column ad x 7.5 inches tall: 2 x 7.5 x $11.70 = $175.50
3 column ad x 10 inches tall: 3 x 10 x $11.70 = $351.00

Display ad Column sizes:
1 column - 2.5” wide
2 column - 5” wide
3 column - 7.75” wide
4 column - 10.25” wide

Common display ad sizes and prices:
2 col. x 2 = $46.80
2 col. x 4 = $93.60
2 col. x 5 = $115
2 col. x 6 = $140.40

1/4 Page (vertical 2 col. x 7.5”; horizontal 3 col. x 5”) = $175.50

1/2 Page (vertical 3 col. x 10”; horizontal 4 col. x 7.5”) = $351

Full Page (4 col. x 15”) = $702

FLIERS
Fliers can be inserted in the newspaper at a rate of $75 per 1,000.
About 2,800 inserts are needed for in-county subscribers and newsstands and would cost $210.
Fliers cannot be wider than 8.5”. If wider, they must be trimmed or folded.

 

PLUS: Eight times a year, we print our total-market paper, the Plus. It is mailed free to 21,000 – all businesses and homes in Woodstock, Wonder Lake, Huntley, Hebron and Bull Valley. Plus ads are $17 per column inch. Column sizes are the same as The Independent.

Insert rate is the same as the regrular issue rate, quantities depend on area coverage. Please call for a quote.

NOTE: Advertising cancellations must be made within 24 hours of the deadline date or you will be charged the full amount of the ad.
