Jean Frances Cooney

Jean Frances Cooney, 91, Woodstock, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, in Woodstock.
Jean was born Sept. 25, 1923, to Walter F. and Florence (Callinan) Conway in Woodstock.  
On Feb. 2, 1957, she married Leo F. Cooney at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock.
A lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church, she graduated from St. Mary Grade School and St. Mary High School.  She graduated from St. Mary College of Notre Dame, class of 1944.  
She was a home economist for Northern Illinois Gas Company for 25 years, retiring in 1979.  She was an accomplished organist and will be remembered for her many years of providing wonderful music at the Woodstock Elks Lodge and many other local establishments.
She and her husband were dedicated to seeing that their children received a quality education at St. Mary Catholic School and Marian Central Catholic High School.  They were honored for their efforts this year when they were awarded the Marian Central Hurricane Award for their outstanding service. 
She and her husband also were godparents of 17 children.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Karlen Cooney, Woodstock; a brother-in-law, Thomas D. (Jane) Cooney, Woodstock; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2010; a brother-in-law, James H. Cooney; a sister-in-law, Irene Cooney; and a brother- and sister in-law, Donald J. and Beatrice M. Cooney.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.  The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock.  Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Woodstock.
Memorials can be made to the St. Mary Guardian Angel Fund for tuition assistance.
