David W. Cole

David W. Cole, 71, Woodstock, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry surrounded by his family.
He was born July 28, 1943, to Ervin and Carolyn Kurth Cole in Chicago. 
On June 13, 1987, he married Margaret C. “Marge” Dethloff at Camp Napowan, Wild Rose, Wis.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was an active leader with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 153 for more than 50 years.  He  also was active with the Illinois Railway Museum, Union.  He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Woodstock Snowmobile Club.  He loved old Farmall tractors and Dodge trucks.  He also loved the outdoors and camping. 
He played Santa Claus on the Woodstock Square for many years.  He loved working with children, especially his grandchildren and his nieces.  They were the joy of his life, and he always supported them in all their activities.
Survivors include his wife; three step-sons, Mike (Marianne) Patenaude, Jeff (Cathy) Patenaude and Dan (Julie) Patenaude; five grandchildren, Michaela, Gianna, Madison, Cade and Cole; two sisters, Ellen (Mike) Gezella and Connie (Fred) Dyba; a brother, Bruce Cole; four nieces, Megann, Elizabeth, Amy and Nina; and a nephew, Adam.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation and funeral were Oct. 13 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home.  
Memorials can be made to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 153 or to the Illinois Railway Museum.
